| From the Artist - I am not afraid to make a bowl that is not perfectly round, instead I create pieces that feel like they evolve from one shape into another, just as in nature. I envision walking through a woodland forest and looking down to see new sprouts reaching for the sun, while nearby is mature growth that is heading towards a state of decay as it cycles through its life. Sometimes my earth pods and sprouts are "young" and round, sometimes they're "old" and have more obscure shapes. This is what I try to represent through my work. I often add natural elements like driftwood, dried flowers, weed pods and sticks to my pieces, because they are so compatible with my organic forms. I believe there's a little love of nature in all of us, and I hope my work directs your eye to enjoy my interpretations of that which is earthy, abstract, and of the earth. Kathi Mohlman is a self taught clay artist. Her work has an uninhibited and free sense of style. |
